The £37.5 million New North Community School PFI Project involves the new build of a primary school in Islington, North London.
The New North Community School, which opened its doors to pupils in April 2007, features a nursery, children’s centre and educational facilities which are open to the community during out-of-school hours. The school is part of an innovative regeneration scheme and was entirely funded by the development of 59 affordable housing units and 62 private sales units.
The construction used sustainable materials including recycled roofing, bricks and aluminium with all the timber sourced from managed forests. The new school replaced Charles Lamb and Ecclesbourne Primary Schools which were in need of renewal due to general wear and tear of the buildings.
