Open to patients in 2006, the new £26m Danetre Community Hospital in Daventry covers 10,000m2 and brings together 11 separate functions including a GP surgery, community services, outpatients, inpatients and mental health provision. Visitors are drawn in through the main entrance into a light, two storey atrium space. Natural light illuminates the internal spaces which are flexible and energy efficient.
The project involved the construction of a new hospital on an existing site together with the refurbishment of retained listed buildings. The previous facilities were in need of renewal due to general wear and tear.
