The £320 million South Lanarkshire Schools PFI Project involves the new build of 17 schools and the refurbishment of 2 others.

Calderside Academy, one of the new builds, opened its doors to pupils in January 2008. The formal opening ceremony in November 2008 was attended by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning who said 'Calderside Academy is a place where integration is the norm and the new school provides a first class learning environment which teachers, pupils and support staff can be proud of - in fact it creates a place which inspires everyone to be all they can be.'
